History

〔Parish Establishment〕 The parish history on the Haengsin 1-dong Church website records February 14, 1997 as the “establishment date of Haengsin 1-dong Parish.” The establishment date on the parish introduction page is also February 14, 1997, and the address directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea also lists 1997.2.14 as the establishment date. 〔Patron Saint〕 The parish introduction lists St. Paul as its patron. The patron-saint page explains that the Apostle Paul, together with the Apostle Peter, is regarded as one of the two pillars of the Church, that he was a Jew of the house of Benjamin in Israel, born in Tarsus, and after experiencing the apparition of the risen Lord at Damascus became the “Apostle to the Gentiles” and made three great missionary journeys. The same page states that Paul was martyred by beheading in Rome in the time of Nero, and that the Church celebrates the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul the Apostle on January 25 and the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles on June 29. This explanation is marked as sourced from the Cheongju bulletin (issues dated September 2, 2012, the 16th and the 30th).
