Galma-dong Catholic Church

Overview

Galmadong Church is a church in Seo-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City, belonging to the Diocese of Daejeon. According to the Korean Catholic Encyclopedia, on August 13, 1991 it was separated and established from Goejeong-dong Parish and Beon-dong Parish (as spelled in the encyclopedia).

History

[Establishment] According to the Korean Catholic Encyclopedia, Galmadong Parish was separated and established from Goejeong-dong Parish and Beon-dong Parish (as spelled in the original text of the encyclopedia) on August 13, 1991. Its jurisdiction covered Galmadong, Wolpyeong-dong and part of Dunsan-dong. The number of parishioners at the time of establishment was 783, and in 1993 it had grown to 1,196. It is said that Father Marco Lee Han-yeong took office as the first pastor at the time of the parish establishment and worked for the construction of the church and the settlement of the parish.

[Directory record] The directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea lists Galmadong Parish as belonging to the Daejeon Western District, with the date of establishment as August 13, 1991, the patron as the Annunciation of the Lord, and the affiliated sisters’ congregation as the Congregation of Jesus. The date of establishment is the same as in the encyclopedia.
