Stephen Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan Shrine of Love and Sharing

History & origins

The park began with the childhood home of Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan in Yongdae-ri, Gunwi-eup, and the memories associated with its surroundings. The house was restored in the form of a traditional thatched home, and the surrounding area was arranged with the site of a pottery kiln and commemorative spaces so that visitors could learn about his family life and formative years.

Gunwi County developed the area around the home as a memorial and pilgrimage site, and Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan Love and Sharing Park opened on March 27, 2018. At the time of opening, the roughly 30,000-square-meter site included the old house, a memorial exhibition hall, a memorial garden, the Stations of the Cross, a Peace Forest, and a lawn plaza.

The site later became both a commemorative tourist attraction in Gunwi and a pilgrimage destination introduced by the Archdiocese of Daegu. Centered on the home and memorial hall, the park connects the cardinal's life with local memory and continues to offer visitors a place to reflect on the meaning of his life and faith.
