Overview

Gaksan Church is a church in Gaksan-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu Metropolitan City, belonging to the Archdiocese of Daegu. It was founded on January 29, 2016 and built a new church building on October 30 of the same year. Its patron is Mary, Mother of God.

History

[Establishment] According to the Daegu History and Culture Encyclopedia, Gaksan Church was established to achieve harmony and peace in the local community, was founded on January 29, 2016, and lists Kim Seong-bok as its founder. The establishment date of January 29, 2016 is also listed in the Korean Catholic Bishops' Conference directory and in the Archdiocese of Daegu parish information. The Daegu History and Culture Encyclopedia states that a new Gaksan Church building was built on October 30, 2016.

[Jurisdiction and Current Status] The Korean Catholic Bishops' Conference directory lists the patron as Mary, Mother of God, the number of the faithful as 834 people, and the jurisdiction as Daerim-dong, Sukcheon-dong, Sabuk-dong, and part of Ansim 3,4-dong. The Daegu History and Culture Encyclopedia states that there is currently 1 parish priest, and that there are a pastoral council, liturgy department, district council, Sunday school, mothers' association, small-community meeting groups and story-sharing rooms, and that parish community gatherings, small-community gatherings and story-sharing room activities are held.
