About this place
The Uirim-dong branch of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is listed in the Catholic Church directory in Korea as a local community of a women's institute of consecrated life belonging to the Diocese of Wonju. Located in Jecheon, it is not the generalate of the institute but a branch community established for religious life and local apostolic service. The directory also gives the institute's official English name as Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (H.S.H.J.).
The spirituality of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus centers on making the love of the Sacred Heart visible in daily life, serving the poor and those in difficulty, and cooperating in the apostolic work of the Church. Publicly available official sources, however, do not specify the particular institutions or exact local ministries entrusted to the Uirim-dong branch. It is therefore more accurate to understand this place not as a specific welfare or educational facility, but as a local religious community from which the institute carries out religious life and apostolic service within the Diocese of Wonju.
