Sisters of the Martyrs' Mission

About this place

The Missionary Sisters of the Holy Martyrs in Gwirae-myeon, Wonju, are listed in the Catholic Church in Korea directory as the “Korea Gwirae Community,” a women’s religious community affiliated with the Diocese of Wonju. Its official English name is given as Missionary Sisters of the Holy Martyrs (Gwirae), confirming that it is the Gwirae community in Korea of the same institute whose representative address is in Mexico.

This is not a territorial parish church serving all Catholics in a defined area, but a branch community where religious sisters live their common and consecrated life. A religious branch exists differently from a territorial parish, centering on the institute’s own consecrated life rather than jurisdiction over a local population, and the directory separately lists the Gwirae community as a religious community within the Diocese of Wonju. Because it is also distinct from the representative address in Mexico, visitors should understand this location as a Korean branch community of the institute rather than as an ordinary parish church.
