About this place
The Taebaek community of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary is registered in the Guide to the Catholic Church in Korea as the “Taebaek St. Thérèse of Lisieux Community,” a women’s religious community belonging to the Diocese of Wonju. Its official English name is Franciscan Missionaries of Mary: F.M.M., and the community is currently located in Jangseong-dong, Taebaek. This entry refers not to an ordinary parish or mission station but to a religious community where members of the congregation continue their common life, prayer, and service to the Church.
The name of the community recalls Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, and the choice of a patronal spiritual figure is itself part of the identity of a religious house. The public directory, however, does not describe the community’s present apostolate or institutional function in enough detail to label it specifically as a medical, educational, or parish ministry. Within what can be verified, the place is a local community of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in Taebaek and represents the continuing presence of consecrated religious life within the local Church.
