About this place

The Munsan branch of the Little Sisters of Jesus is a women's religious community at 8 Tongil-ro 2018beon-gil in Munsan-eup, Paju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea registers it as the congregation's Munsan branch within the Diocese of Uijeongbu.

Inspired by Charles de Foucauld, the sisters live contemplative religious life in small, ordinary communities, sharing the daily life and work of the people around them. Presence, friendship, and hospitality among people who are poor or marginalized are central to their witness. The Munsan house is therefore a local religious community rather than an ordinary parish.

History & origins

The Little Sisters of Jesus were begun in the Sahara in 1939 by Little Sister Magdeleine, inspired by the life and spirituality of Charles de Foucauld. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records September 8, 1939, as the foundation date and June 1, 1955, as the congregation's arrival in Korea.

After entering Korea, the sisters continued their distinctive form of small-community religious life close to ordinary people. A Munsan branch is now registered in Paju, but public sources do not establish when that specific local community was opened. The dates 1939 and 1955 therefore refer to the congregation's founding and Korean arrival, not the foundation of the Munsan house.
