About this place
Yangju Olivetan Benedictine Monastery is a men's Benedictine religious community at 202-64 Hyeonseok-ro 413beon-gil in Gwangjeok-myeon, Yangju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records the monastery as established on April 10, 2016.
Following the Benedictine tradition, the monastery is a home of prayer, work, and common life for the monks. A retreat and prayer house under the monastery's responsibility is also registered at the same address, making the site both a monastic residence and a spiritual place where lay Catholics can stay for quiet prayer and retreat.
History & origins
According to the Catholic Church Directory in Korea, Yangju Olivetan Benedictine Monastery was established on April 10, 2016. This is the local foundation date of the Yangju monastic community and should be distinguished from the broader history of Benedictine or Olivetan monasticism.
The community has continued its monastic life at the present site in Gwangjeok-myeon, where a retreat and prayer house is also operated under its responsibility. Public official sources do not provide a detailed chronology of local construction or relocation, so the secure history centers on the 2016 foundation and the monastery's present retreat ministry.
