History & origins

The predecessor of Yangju 2-dong Parish was Mansong-ri Mission Station. A secondary chronology places the beginning of the mission in November 2000, while the Catholic Church Directory gives September 4, 2003, as the parish establishment date. The official history of its mother parish, Deokjeong, separately records September 16, 2003, as the point when Mansong-ri was elevated and separated, suggesting different stages in the formal establishment process.

The new parish initially used the name Mansong-ri, then Mansong, before adopting the name Yangju 2-dong in 2004 as the local administrative setting changed. In 2005 it moved from Mansong-dong to its present location in Samsung-dong. The parish's early history is defined by its growth from a mission station into a parish and by relocation and renaming during rapid urban change.
