Yadang Crystal Pond Catholic Church is a parish of District 8 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 696-27 Dongseo-daero in Paju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records it as established on September 14, 2010. The parish's own chronology shows that it began under the provisional name Yadang-ri Parish and adopted the present name, Yadang Crystal Pond, on October 3, 2010.
Formed alongside the growth of the Unjeong and Yadang area, the parish now sustains Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, Eucharistic adoration, and various cultural and community activities. Its distinctive 'Crystal Pond' name and a church space shaped through the direct participation of parishioners give the community a strong local identity.
History & origins
The parish chronology records the creation of a provisional Yadang-ri Parish on September 7, 2010, through separation from Unjeong and Tanhyeon parishes. Fr. John the Baptist Choi Seong-u was appointed as the first pastor on September 14, the date recorded by the Catholic Church Directory as the parish's formal establishment. On October 3, the community celebrated its first Mass on the parish site and adopted the name Yadang Crystal Pond Parish.
Church construction intensified in 2011. In April 2012 the community moved from its temporary church to the construction site and celebrated a thanksgiving Mass for entering the new space. The Eucharistic adoration chapel was blessed later that year, and parishioners completed the large 'Christ Pantocrator' mosaic for Christmas. After further reinforcement work, official occupancy approval for the parish church and Marian shrine was obtained on September 23, 2016.
