About this place

Wonheung-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 46-20 Wonheung 1-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. It was established on August 25, 2017, with Jichuk-dong St. John Parish as its mother parish, and today honors Pope St. Paul VI as its patron.

The parish serves Catholics in the Wonheung area and parts of Samsong and Dongsan through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. As a relatively young parish in a newly developed residential district, it places particular emphasis on building a stable Catholic community across families, children, youth, and young adults.

History & origins

Wonheung-dong Parish was founded on August 25, 2017, and Fr. Francis Xavier Kim Hyeon-bae arrived as its first pastor on September 5. In 2018 the parish records were electronically separated from Jichuk-dong St. John Parish, and a groundbreaking Mass was celebrated on the present site.

Full construction proceeded in 2019, and the building received approval for use in May 2020. After further interior work, the parish celebrated a commemorative Mass for entry into the main church in December 2023. Its early history is the story of a new community separating from its mother parish and gradually establishing its own church and pastoral structure.
