History & origins

The Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing were founded on September 24, 1885, and entered Korea on November 21, 1925. After learning the language, the first missionary sisters began organized parish ministry in 1926 through catechesis, visits to the sick, and home visitation.

The Seoul Priory became independent from the earlier Korean missionary structure on November 16, 1987, and later developed communities and ministries in several dioceses. A Guri branch is currently registered in the Diocese of Uijeongbu, but public official sources do not provide its exact local opening date; the congregation's 1885 foundation and 1925 Korean arrival are therefore not treated as the foundation date of the Guri house.
