About this place
Topyeong-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 2 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 40 Beolmal-ro 128beon-gil in Guri. It was established on October 5, 2001, and is dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The Catholic Church Directory also records the presence of the Carmelite Missionary Sisters at the parish.
The parish serves Catholics in Topyeong-dong and nearby areas through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is central to its identity, while the parish and the Carmelite Missionary Sisters cooperate in local apostolic service.
History & origins
The Topyeong Catholic community took shape in April 1997 when land was acquired and a mission station was begun. The first Mass at Topyeong Mission Station was celebrated on April 21, 2001, and the arrival of the first pastor on October 5 marked the establishment of the independent parish. In November, the parish began publishing its bulletin and chose Our Lady of Perpetual Help as patron.
As the community grew, construction of a new church began with a groundbreaking in May 2007. The first Mass in the new building was celebrated that December, and the church was formally dedicated on March 30, 2008.
