About this place
Tanhyeon-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 119-11 Tanhyeon-ro in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang. It was established on September 16, 2000, after separating from Ilsan Parish, and has the 103 Korean Martyrs as its patrons.
The parish serves Catholics in the northwestern part of the Ilsan new-town area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities. Its identity is shaped by devotion to the Korean Martyrs and by its origin as a new parish created during the rapid urban growth of Ilsan.
History & origins
Tanhyeon-dong Parish was established on September 16, 2000, after separating from Ilsan Parish as the population of Ilsan New Town grew. The new community initially worshipped in prefabricated church and education buildings.
As the temporary structures aged and developed roof and basement problems, the parish began planning a new church. Parishioners supported the project through prayer and fundraising, and Bishop Peter Lee Ki-heon dedicated the new church on October 27, 2013. The move from prefabricated facilities to a permanent church was a major turning point in the parish's history.
