About this place
Sudong Catholic Church is a parish of District 1 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 1482 Namga-ro in Sudong-myeon, Namyangju. It was established on November 16, 2006, and has St. John of the Cross as patron. Its official introduction identifies Sudong-myeon and Gagok-ri in Hwado-eup as its pastoral territory.
Its present role is to connect Catholics dispersed across a mountainous and rural area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.
History & origins
Sudong Parish was established on November 16, 2006. Its first pastor, Fr. Peter Shin Jung-ho, arrived on November 19, and the community celebrated its first Mass in a temporary church on November 21.
The parish moved into its new church in November 2007, and the church was dedicated on May 8, 2008. Its early history is marked by the relatively rapid move from temporary worship to a permanent church.
