About this place
Songnae-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 4 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 12 Jungang-ro 33beon-gil in Dongducheon. Its official website names St. Pio of Pietrelcina as patron and shows an active parish life of Mass, sacraments, youth, senior, and social ministries.
It serves the everyday Catholic life of the Songnae-dong area, with the prayer and spirituality of St. Pio forming an important part of the parish identity.
History & origins
The Catholic Church Directory records April 6, 2008, as the establishment date of Songnae-dong Parish. The parish's own clergy history, however, describes the first pastor arriving at the newly established parish on September 8, 2009, so the two dates are best treated as different stages rather than collapsed into one event.
On November 15, 2009, St. Pio of Pietrelcina was chosen as patron with diocesan approval, and a statue of the saint was dedicated on January 31, 2010.
