About this place
Sinwon-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 5 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 89 Sinwon 1-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records it as established on September 4, 2014, with Jichuk-dong as the mother parish. Current parish information identifies St. Francis of Assisi as its patron.
It is a relatively young parish serving Catholics in Sinwon-dong and Ogeum-dong through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Its spiritual connection with St. Francis was also reflected in its designation as one of the diocesan pilgrimage churches for the special jubilee marking the 800th anniversary of the saint's death in 2026.
History & origins
Sinwon-dong Parish was established on September 4, 2014, after separation from Jichuk-dong Parish. The new parish provided a closer pastoral community for Catholics in the developing Sinwon-dong area of Goyang.
The parish is now established at 89 Sinwon 1-ro and continues its life under the patronage of St. Francis of Assisi. Public official Church sources reviewed do not provide a sufficiently detailed chronology of the early church-building process, so the secure historical outline centers on the parish's establishment and its present location.
