About this place
Singok 2-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 3 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 61 Geumsin-ro 296beon-gil in Uijeongbu. It was established on September 26, 1997, and has the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as its patron.
In addition to serving local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life, the parish is notable for the 'Gate of Heaven' columbarium located within the church complex. The facility was conceived as a place to remember the dead in the hope of the Resurrection and to express the communion of the living and the dead, giving the parish a distinctive ministry of remembrance and prayer.
History & origins
The Singok 2-dong community began formally when its mission station was approved on December 12, 1995. The first Mass was celebrated in a rented mission building on April 6, 1996. The parish itself was approved on September 26, 1997, and Fr. Joseph Kim Tae-su arrived as the first pastor on October 10.
Construction of a permanent church began with a groundbreaking in June 2001, followed by the dedication of a new church in June 2002. The 'Gate of Heaven' columbarium was blessed in April 2005. After further expansion, the community entered the larger church in April 2009 and celebrated another church dedication that July. This progression from mission station to parish and then to a complex combining worship and memorial ministry defines the parish's history.
