History & origins

Singok 1-dong Parish was created in September 1998 after separation from Uijeongbu Parish; the Catholic Church Directory in Korea gives September 25, 1998, as the formal establishment date. The new community soon began preparing for a permanent parish church.

According to a Catholic Times report, construction began in July 1999. Parishioners supported the project through prayer and offerings, including a campaign of two million decades of the Rosary. The new church was dedicated on November 14, 2004, by Bishop Joseph Lee Han-taek of Uijeongbu. The long process from a newly established parish to a permanent church forms the core of its early history.
