About this place
Singok 1-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 3 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 26 Dongil-ro 506beon-gil in Uijeongbu. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records the parish as established on September 25, 1998, with St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon, Korea's first Catholic priest, as its patron.
Today it serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life. The present church, dedicated in 2004 after years of preparation and prayer, is the community's principal worship space, while devotion to St. Andrew Kim and his martyr witness remains a defining part of the parish's identity.
History & origins
Singok 1-dong Parish was created in September 1998 after separation from Uijeongbu Parish; the Catholic Church Directory in Korea gives September 25, 1998, as the formal establishment date. The new community soon began preparing for a permanent parish church.
According to a Catholic Times report, construction began in July 1999. Parishioners supported the project through prayer and offerings, including a campaign of two million decades of the Rosary. The new church was dedicated on November 14, 2004, by Bishop Joseph Lee Han-taek of Uijeongbu. The long process from a newly established parish to a permanent church forms the core of its early history.
