The Uijeongbu branch of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Service is a women's religious community at 267-74 Hajiseok-gil in Paju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea registers it as a religious house of the Diocese of Uijeongbu.

Following the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, the congregation places the Gospel at the center of its life and serves people who are poor, sick, or in need. The Uijeongbu branch is therefore a local religious community for Franciscan life and apostolate rather than an ordinary territorial parish.

History & origins

The Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Service trace their origins to a Catholic clinic opened in Wonju in 1982 to care for people who were poor and sick. At the request of Bishop Daniel Ji Hak-sun and through the work of Sr. Heide Brauckmann, the congregation was founded on September 11, 1983, and adopted its present name in 1988.

Its apostolate later expanded into medical care, social welfare, parish ministry, and overseas mission. An Uijeongbu branch is now registered in Paju, but its exact local opening date is not publicly documented, so 1983 is not treated as the foundation date of the Paju community.
