About this place
Onam Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 20-28 Jingeononam-ro 808beon-gil in Onam-eup, Namyangju. It was established on November 20, 2002, after separating from Jinjeop Parish, and has the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as its patronal title. The parish's official introduction identifies all of Onam-eup as its pastoral territory.
Serving both residential and semi-rural areas, the parish provides Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Devotion to the Holy Family shapes its pastoral emphasis on the faith life of families and the local community.
History & origins
Onam Parish was established on November 20, 2002. On December 3 it was formally separated from Jinjeop Parish, and Fr. James Kim Jae-young arrived as its first pastor. A blessing of the church site followed in January 2003.
A two-story prefabricated church was completed in July 2003 and blessed later that month. The parish then developed alongside the growth of Onam-eup and marked its twentieth anniversary in 2022. Its early history is characterized by the rapid establishment of a new parish community, site, and worship space.
