Neunggok Catholic Church is a parish of District 5 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 7-14 Todang-ro 78beon-gil in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records the parish as established on September 8, 1982, and names the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as its patronal feast.
Today the parish serves Catholics in the Neunggok and Todang area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life. Because its roots lie in a mission station formerly under Susaek Parish, the church also reflects the growth of a local Catholic community into an independent parish amid the urban development of Goyang. Its devotion to the Nativity of Mary remains a defining part of its identity.
History & origins
The organized Catholic community in Neunggok began on November 8, 1978, when Neunggok Mission Station was established under Susaek Parish. Its chapel was blessed on December 12 of that year, and as the community grew, construction of a parish church began with a groundbreaking ceremony on August 10, 1981.
On September 8, 1982, Neunggok was separated from Susaek and established as an independent parish, with Fr. Pio Min Byeong-deok as its first pastor. The parish chose the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as its patronal feast on September 18, and celebrated its first baptismal ceremony after parish establishment on December 24. This sequence records the community's development from a mission station into a full parish.
