About this place
Millak-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 3 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 7 Yongmin-ro 351beon-gil in Uijeongbu. It was established on August 24, 2018, and has St. Matthew the Evangelist as its patron. The parish's official introduction identifies the entire Millak 2 district as its pastoral territory.
It is a relatively young parish formed alongside the large-scale residential development of Millak 2. Today it provides Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and small-community life for local Catholics. Devotion to St. Matthew and the task of helping a new urban Catholic community take root are central to its present identity.
History & origins
Millak-dong Parish was established on August 24, 2018, after separation from Yonghyeon-dong Parish. Its first pastor, Fr. Carlo Kang Han-su, arrived in early September, and the community celebrated its first Mass in a temporary church on December 16.
Construction of a permanent church formally began with a groundbreaking ceremony and Mass on April 3, 2022. The completed Millak-dong church was dedicated on June 24, 2023, followed by the dedication of stained glass in 2024. The rapid progression from a temporary worship space to a permanent church within about five years forms the core of the parish's early history.
