About this place
The community of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Annunciation of the Word at 76-25 Simgung-ro, Gwangtan-myeon, Paju, is listed in the Catholic Church Directory in Korea as the institute's “Uijeongbu branch.” It is a religious house rather than an independent parish or mission station.
The congregation was founded in Korea and places the Word of Scripture and the mystery of the Annunciation at the heart of its spirituality. The institute has served in parishes, mission stations, social ministries, and health-related apostolates. The Paju house belongs within that religious identity, while specific local ministries not documented in public sources are not assumed here.
History & origins
The Sisters of Our Lady of the Annunciation of the Word trace their origin to a community begun by Fr. Lawrence Seon Jong-wan on March 25, 1960, the Solemnity of the Annunciation. The community received ecclesiastical approval on August 22, 1969, and developed a spirituality centered on the Word together with a range of apostolates. Church sources also record the process by which the institute came to use its present name in 2011.
The Uijeongbu branch is currently registered in Gwangtan-myeon, Paju. Public Church sources consulted here, however, do not provide a verifiable opening date for this particular branch or the date of its move to the present address, so those details are not invented.
