About this place
Juyeop-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 7 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 48 Juhwa-ro in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang. It was established on March 4, 1995, after separating from Baekseok-dong Parish, and has St. Joseph as its patron.
The parish serves the large residential population of Juyeop-dong through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and communities for children, youth, young adults, and families. As it grew, it became a mother parish for several new communities, including Daehwa-dong, Jeongbalsan, and Hugok, playing an important role in the formation of Catholic life in western Ilsan.
History & origins
The Juyeop Catholic community began preparing in earnest with the acquisition of a church site in February 1992. On March 4, 1995, it separated from Baekseok-dong Parish, and Fr. Francis Won Jae-hyeon arrived as first pastor on March 17. The first outdoor Mass was celebrated two days later, and from October the community worshipped in a greenhouse-style church in Daehwa-dong.
After construction of a permanent church, the parish entered the present building on November 8, 1998. As the population of Ilsan grew, new parishes including Daehwa-dong, Jeongbalsan, and Hugok were later separated from Juyeop. Its history is marked by growth from temporary worship spaces into a mother parish of western Ilsan.
