About this place

Jungsan Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 162 Jungsan-ro in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang. It was established on October 5, 2001, after separating from Ilsan Parish, and has St. Paul the Apostle as its patron.

The parish serves Catholics in Jungsan-dong and neighboring areas including Seongseok-dong, Seolmun-dong, and Munbong-dong through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. The missionary spirit of St. Paul is central to its patronal identity as a parish linking the new-town area with surrounding communities.

History & origins

Jungsan Parish was established on October 5, 2001, with the arrival of its first pastor, Fr. Raymond Won Chung-yeon, on the same day. As the community grew, formal preparations for a permanent church began in 2005, and in 2006 a temporary tent church was completed and a groundbreaking Mass was celebrated.

The first Mass in the new church was celebrated on Christmas Eve 2007. After completion of the project, the church was formally dedicated on December 14, 2008. The parish's early history is marked by its development from a newly formed community using temporary space into an established parish with a permanent church.
