Jigeum-dong Catholic Church is the district-head parish of District 2 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 28 Gyeongchun-ro 476beon-gil in Namyangju. Its patron is St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The parish serves Catholics in the Jigeum and Dasan area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Since 2010 it has also served as the district-head parish, helping coordinate pastoral life among the parishes of District 2. Its present identity reflects a history of growth from a mission community into both an established parish and a district center.
History & origins
The Jigeum Catholic community began on November 26, 1992, after separating from Guri Parish and securing space in Jigeum-dong for a mission station. The first Mass was celebrated in January 1993, and on September 6, 1995, the mission was elevated to Jigeum-dong Parish.
As redevelopment and population growth changed the area, the community moved to a temporary church in 2006 and began construction of the main church in 2008. The parish entered the new church in May 2009, and Bishop Peter Lee Ki-heon consecrated it on July 4, 2010. On September 28 of that year, Jigeum-dong was elevated to district-head parish status, adding a wider coordinating role within District 2.
