About this place
Jichuk-dong John Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 5-7 Samsong-ro 221beon-gil in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. It grew from Jichuk Mission Station under Wondang Parish and became a separate parish in 2010. Today it serves Catholics in the Jichuk and Samsong area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life.
In 2026 the parish entered a major new phase with construction of a new church to serve its growing community and changing pastoral environment. Maintaining regular parish life while preparing the new church is a defining feature of the community today.
History & origins
The Jichuk Catholic community began on November 9, 2008, when Jichuk Mission Station was established under Wondang Parish and celebrated its first Mass. As local development brought a growing Catholic population, the mission expanded rapidly. Wondang Parish's official chronology records the separation of Jichuk-dong John Parish on September 14, 2010.
The community has continued as an independent parish, and on May 10, 2026, it held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new church. The movement from mission station to parish and then into a new church-building phase forms the main historical arc of Jichuk-dong John Parish.
