History & origins

The Order of Friars Minor began in the early thirteenth century when St. Francis of Assisi embraced a Gospel life of poverty and fraternity. The Korean Province continues that tradition through religious life, formation, and Franciscan spiritual ministries.

The Paju community itself is recent. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment on December 10, 2020. From its house in Papyeong-myeon, the friars continue community life and serve the local Church and their province, including spiritual assistance to the Uijeongbu district of the Secular Franciscan Order.
