History & origins

Inchang-dong Parish was established in February 1997 after separating from Guri Parish. The parish's official overview gives February 14 as its establishment date, while the official chronology records the separation and establishment under an Archdiocesan decree on February 4. The exact day therefore differs between two official parish pages. Fr. Paul Kwon Heung-sik arrived as first pastor on February 28, and the first Mass in a temporary structure was celebrated on March 2.

During the same year the parish organized districts, a pastoral council, and the Legion of Mary while beginning plans for a permanent church. Its early history is best understood as the formation of an independent community beginning in February 1997.
