About this place
Inchang-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 80-11 Geonwon-daero 99beon-gil in Guri, with St. Paul the Apostle as its patron. It serves Catholics in Inchang-dong, parts of Gyomun 1-dong, Sano-dong, Galmae-dong, and neighboring areas through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.
The parish began in 1997 after separating from Guri Parish and has developed into an established local Catholic community. Its official parish symbolism also draws on St. Paul's martyrdom and Christian faith, making the apostolic spirit of Paul an important element of its identity.
History & origins
Inchang-dong Parish was established in February 1997 after separating from Guri Parish. The parish's official overview gives February 14 as its establishment date, while the official chronology records the separation and establishment under an Archdiocesan decree on February 4. The exact day therefore differs between two official parish pages. Fr. Paul Kwon Heung-sik arrived as first pastor on February 28, and the first Mass in a temporary structure was celebrated on March 2.
During the same year the parish organized districts, a pastoral council, and the Legion of Mary while beginning plans for a permanent church. Its early history is best understood as the formation of an independent community beginning in February 1997.
