일산 (7지구장 본당) 성당

History & origins

The roots of Ilsan Parish go back to an Ilsan mission station under Jungnim-dong Parish in the 1930s. In the 1950s, military chaplains helped the community obtain its present site and construct a church. The parish's official chronology records elevation from mission station to parish on March 30, 1958, followed by the blessing and inauguration of the church by Bishop No Gi-nam on July 3.

The current Catholic Church Directory in Korea, however, gives June 25, 1958, as the establishment date. Because the two official sources differ, the history safely treats 1958 as the year of parish elevation without forcing a single exact date. In June 2005 the church became the district-head parish of District 7.
