About this place
Hyangdong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 88 Hyanggi 5-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. It began in 2021 after separating from Hwajeonmaeul Parish as the Hyangdong district developed and its Catholic population grew. The parish now serves local Catholics from its new church through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life.
It is a relatively young new-town parish that began in a temporary commercial space before establishing a permanent church of its own.
History & origins
After separating from Hwajeonmaeul Parish in 2021, the Hyangdong community began parish life in a temporary commercial space on Hyanggi 5-ro. Because the official page contains differing exact dates for establishment and separation, the safest historical description is the confirmed sequence of separation in 2021 and worship in a temporary church.
Construction of the present church began in April 2024 and was completed in December of that year. Approval for use followed in January 2025, and the parish entered the new church on February 16, 2025, moving from its temporary space into a permanent parish home.
