About this place
Howon-dong Catholic Church is the district-head parish of District 3 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 167 Hoam-ro in Uijeongbu. It was established on September 24, 1996, and is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.
In addition to serving local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life, it functions as a pastoral center linking the parishes of District 3. Devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary is an important spiritual marker of the community.
History & origins
Howon-dong Parish was established on September 24, 1996. Its first pastor arrived on October 10, and the first Mass after establishment was celebrated on October 13. A temporary steel-frame tent church was prepared later that month for the new community.
Approval for a new church was obtained in 1997, with groundbreaking in August and entry into the building in December. A larger church project began in 2010; the community entered the new church in 2011, and Bishop Peter Lee Ki-heon dedicated it on March 18, 2012.
