한국 순교 복자 성직 수도회
Religious house
About this place
This location is St. Lucia Monastery and the Naruter Community of the Clerical Congregation of the Blessed Korean Martyrs at 49 Samsung-ro 134beon-gil in Yangju. A religious house and a residential welfare community for persons with disabilities operate on the same site, and the Catholic Church Directory identifies the congregation as responsible for the facility.
The congregation follows the spirituality of the Korean Martyrs and the ideal of myeonhyeong-mua—self-emptying union with Christ. In Yangju, this spirituality is expressed concretely through community life and long-term service with persons with disabilities.
History & origins
The Clerical Congregation of the Blessed Korean Martyrs was founded by Fr. Andrew Bang Yu-ryong in Jegi-dong, Seoul, on October 30, 1953, as Korea's first indigenous men's religious congregation. It developed religious life and apostolates around the spirituality of the Korean Martyrs and myeonhyeong-mua.
The direct history of the Yangju Naruter Community took shape with the purchase of land in 1990. The “Inji House” opened in 1993, when the Archdiocese of Seoul approved management by the congregation; in 1994 the facility was renamed Naruter Community and construction began on work-activity facilities and a monastery. It later developed into the present residential welfare community and St. Lucia Monastery.
