About this place
Haengsin 2-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu at 40 Yonghyeon-ro 5beon-gil in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. It was established on February 14, 1997, and is dedicated to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
The parish serves Catholics in the Haengsin and Muwon residential area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Devotion to the Holy Family gives particular emphasis to the faith life of families and the local community.
History & origins
Preparations for Haengsin 2-dong Parish began at Neunggok Parish in late 1996. In January 1997 the community secured an underground commercial space in the Muwon apartment complex and began celebrating Mass there. The parish was formally separated from Neunggok and established on February 14, and its first pastor arrived on February 28.
To overcome the limitations of the temporary worship space, a new site was obtained and a groundbreaking Mass was celebrated in February 1998. The first Mass in the new church took place in November 1998, approval for use followed in March 1999, and the church was dedicated on September 24, 2000. The move from an underground temporary chapel to a permanent church defines the parish's early history.
