About this place
Kyoha Catholic Church, at 62 Chaekhyangisup-gil in Paju, is a parish of District 8 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu and is currently identified in the Catholic Church Directory in Korea as the district-center parish. It was established on August 27, 2009, and its patronal title is the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
The parish's official introduction describes the family as the “smallest church” and stresses the hope that the home will become a seedbed of faith. Its patronal identity therefore highlights Kyoha not only as a parish for Mass and the sacramental life of local Catholics but also as a community with a particular emphasis on faith lived in the family.
Its present role as the District 8 center also gives Kyoha a coordinating place within the pastoral life of the parishes of the Paju area.
History & origins
Kyoha Parish was established on August 27, 2009, and celebrated a thanksgiving Mass for the new parish on September 13 of that year. The community then developed its pastoral council and various devotional and service groups, building the basic structures of parish life.
Construction of a new church entered a decisive phase with the groundbreaking on September 28, 2013, marking the parish's fourth anniversary. A topping-out Mass followed on March 30, 2014, and the community celebrated an entrance Mass in the new church on October 11. The church was formally dedicated on May 1, 2016.
Kyoha's early history can therefore be traced from the creation of the parish in 2009, through the organization of parish life, to the completion and dedication of its permanent church between 2013 and 2016.
