About this place
Gwansan-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu in District 5, located in Gwansan-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang. Its patron is St. Peter the Apostle. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea currently lists Gwansan-dong Parish at the same address as the package and as part of the Diocese of Uijeongbu.
The parish serves as a local Catholic community where the faithful of Gwansan-dong and nearby areas gather around Mass and the sacraments. Its patronage under St. Peter the Apostle is an important feature of the parish's Catholic identity.
History & origins
The official history of Goyang-dong Parish records that the Gwansan-dong and Gwangtan communities separated from Goyang-dong on April 12, 2009. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea gives September 8, 2009, as the establishment date of Gwansan-dong Parish.
Because the two official Church sources refer to different milestones—separation and parish establishment—the dates should not be collapsed into a single event. The evidence supports a sequence in which the Gwansan-dong community separated from Goyang-dong in the spring of 2009 and is recorded as formally established as a parish on September 8 of that year.
