About this place
Gwangneung Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu in District 2, located in Jinjeop-eup, Namyangju. The parish history identifies the Guardian Angel as its patron, and the current address in the Catholic Church Directory in Korea matches the package.
The church currently hosts regular Sunday and weekday Masses together with confession, Eucharistic adoration, Marian devotional Masses, Communion for the sick, infant baptism, and other sacramental life. Gwangneung therefore serves as a local center where Catholics in the Jinjeop area continue their prayer, sacramental, and community life.
History & origins
Gwangneung Parish was established on August 27, 2009, and Fr. Barnabas Seong Jun-han arrived as its first pastor on September 8 of that year. Construction of an education hall that also served as the church began on May 28, 2010, and the first Mass in the space was celebrated on December 24.
The building received approval for use on March 3, 2011, and was blessed on May 22 in a liturgy presided over by Bishop Peter Lee Ki-heon. The community continued to develop around the church, marking its tenth anniversary in 2019 and publishing a tenth-anniversary commemorative volume in 2020.
