The Brothers of Christ community at 459-1 Barigol-gil, Munsan-eup, Paju is separately listed in the Catholic Church Directory in Korea as the “Paju Hanuri House.” The directory identifies it as a male religious community of the Brothers of Christ (B.O.C.) and describes the superior there as both house superior and novice master, indicating a house that combines community life with formation.

The Brothers of Christ were founded in Korea in 1981 by Monsignor Aloysius Schwartz. Their spirituality has centered on serving the poor as Christ would, making this place better understood not as an ordinary parish church but as a base for religious prayer, common life, formation, and the congregation's apostolate among the poor.

Importantly, this is not the same house as the “Paju House” registered at 421 Barigol-gil. The current Catholic directory lists the two Paju addresses as distinct houses of the same congregation.

History & origins

The Brothers of Christ were founded in Korea in 1981 by Monsignor Aloysius Schwartz to serve people who were poor and marginalized. The current Catholic Church Directory gives May 10, 1981 as the foundation date of the congregation's Seoul headquarters, while a 2010 Catholic Peace Broadcasting/GoodNews source gives May 30. The exact day therefore differs between sources, but they agree that the congregation was founded in Korea in 1981.

The congregation's apostolate in Paju is documented from the early 2000s. Neulpureun Rehabilitation Home, for which the Brothers of Christ are currently listed as the responsible congregation, was established on November 30, 2001 to help homeless and socially vulnerable people through rehabilitation, work, and preparation for independent living. It is a concrete expression in Paju of the congregation's charism of passionate love for the poor.

The address at 459-1 Barigol-gil is currently listed separately as the Paju Hanuri House with a formation function. The available public Church sources, however, do not establish the exact date on which this particular Hanuri house opened, so no local foundation year has been inferred.
