About this place
The Uijeongbu community of the Daughters of Divine Zeal is a women's religious community at 50 Unjeong 2-gil, Paju, within the Diocese of Uijeongbu. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea identifies the community at this address as the congregation's Uijeongbu house.
The congregation's central charism is the spirituality of Rogate, responding to Jesus' command to "ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest" (Matthew 9:38). The congregation prays for vocations and promotes this spirit, with particular concern for the evangelization and care of children and the poor; the Paju community belongs to this same religious mission.
History & origins
The Daughters of Divine Zeal were established on March 19, 1887, and the congregation's own materials identify St. Hannibal Mary Di Francia as its founder. The congregation entered Korea on November 17, 1986, and the current Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists the community at 50 Unjeong 2-gil, Paju, as its Uijeongbu house.
The available official Church sources, however, do not provide the opening date of the Uijeongbu house itself or the date when it moved to the present Paju address. The congregation's foundation, arrival in Korea, and the present identity of the Uijeongbu house can therefore be confirmed, while a more detailed chronology of this particular house should not be stated without stronger evidence.
