About this place
Gajwadong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Uijeongbu in District 7, located in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang. Its patron is the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and its pastoral territory includes Gajwa-dong, Gusan-dong, and parts of Deogi-dong and Gyoha-dong.
The parish describes its community ideal as taking an interest in one another's lives, sharing warmth, and living the Lord's peace through reconciliation and forgiveness. Gajwadong is therefore a local center for Mass, the sacraments, and parish community life in the northwestern part of Ilsanseo-gu, shaped by this stated pastoral spirit.
History & origins
Gajwadong Catholic Church was established as a parish on May 26, 2005, after being separated from Tanhyeon-dong Parish. The parish's official introduction records Fr. Barnabas Yang Gyeong-mo as its first pastor.
The separation gave Catholics in Gajwa-dong and nearby areas an independent parish community in which to continue their life of faith, forming the basis of the present Gajwadong Parish.
