About this place
Doraeul Catholic Church is a parish of District 5 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 10 Doraeul 3-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang. The parish was established in 2015 and honors the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as its patronal feast. Its present name, Doraeul, replaced the original parish name Donae-dong in 2016.
The current church stands near the center of Doraeul Village and was designed with openness to the surrounding community in mind. The site has no enclosing wall or main gate and includes a Marian garden, allowing not only parishioners but local residents to enter naturally. Its identity is therefore that of a newer urban parish and, at the same time, an open neighborhood place of prayer.
History & origins
Doraeul Parish was established on August 27, 2015, after separation from Haengsin 1-dong, Wondang, and Jichuk-dong parishes, originally under the name Donae-dong Parish. On August 25, 2016, the parish name was changed to Doraeul.
Construction of the present church began in May 2016 and the building was completed in January 2017. Formal dedication was postponed while expansion was discussed, and the church was finally consecrated in September 2025, during the parish's tenth-anniversary celebration, with Bishop Benedict Son Hee-song presiding. The sequence of parish establishment, name change, completion of the church, and later formal consecration forms the core chronology of Doraeul Parish.
