About this place
Deokeun-dong Mission Station is a Catholic mission community of the Diocese of Uijeongbu located on the fifth floor of DMC Haneul Building at 718 Deokeun-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it as a newly established mission station dated August 18, 2026. The currently available public Church sources do not yet identify a mother-parish relationship.
It is therefore best understood not as an independent parish but as a small local Catholic community created so that the faithful in the newly developed Deokeun-dong area can gather nearby for prayer and communal faith life. Because the mission has only just been established, its most important present characteristic is the beginning of a new local community rather than a long accumulated institutional history.
History & origins
The Catholic background of the Deokeun-dong area predates the establishment of the present mission station. According to the official history of Hwajeon Village Parish, when the Haengsin 1-dong mission community began in 2008, parish registrations for Catholics in Hyangdong-dong and Deokeun-dong were transferred from Susaek Parish. This shows that Catholics in Deokeun-dong were already living their faith within the pastoral structures of nearby communities.
The present entity named Deokeun-dong Mission Station is much more recent: the Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it as established on August 18, 2026. Public sources do not yet make it possible to state exactly how the earlier pastoral affiliation developed institutionally into the new mission station. The safest historical account therefore distinguishes the earlier regional Catholic background from the formal establishment of the present mission in 2026.
