Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House is a retreat and prayer facility within the Augustinian monastery at 722 Wangsan-ro in Wangjing-myeon, Yeoncheon. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea classifies it as a diocesan “retreat/prayer house” and identifies the Order of St. Augustine as the responsible religious community.
Individuals, families, and small groups can stay in the quiet monastery setting for prayer and reflection. Its character is that of a monastic retreat house, where guests may share in the prayer life of the friars and seek spiritual guidance; it is not an ordinary territorial parish.
History & origins
After the Order of St. Augustine established its monastic presence in Yeoncheon, retreat ministry also developed at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Monastery. By 2009, Catholic GoodNews was already describing the site as a monastery retreat house receiving individuals, families, and small groups.
Today the monastery, novitiate, Uijeongbu branch, and retreat house are all registered at the same site. Public official Church directories do not provide an exact opening date for the retreat house itself, so no specific date should be presented as its foundation date without stronger evidence.
