About this place
Bongilcheon Catholic Church is a parish of District 8 of the Diocese of Uijeongbu, located at 79-5 Songbimal-gil in Jori-eup, Paju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records the parish as established on October 1, 1999, with St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon as its patron.
It serves Catholics in Jori-eup and the Bongilcheon area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life. In 2026 the parish is also carrying out a long-term prayer campaign for the construction of a new church, marking a period in which the existing community continues its worship while preparing for a future parish building.
History & origins
Bongilcheon Parish was formally established on October 1, 1999. The current Catholic Church Directory in Korea confirms this date and the patronage of St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon, and the parish has since continued as an independent Catholic community serving the Jori-eup area of Paju.
The parish's current official website does not expose a full detailed chronology of its earliest years, but it does confirm a 1,000-day prayer offering for a new church, running from February 1, 2026, through September 22, 2028. The parish's history can therefore be described safely as a community established in 1999 that is now entering a new phase of church-building preparation.
