About this place

Segyo-dong Catholic Church is a parish in the Pyeongtaek District of the First Vicariate of the Diocese of Suwon, serving Catholics in Segyo-dong and nearby neighborhoods of Pyeongtaek. Official diocesan materials identify St. Peter the Apostle as its patron and place the parish on Eunsilgoga-gil in Segyo-dong. Rather than arising from a single large new-town development, the parish serves an area where established residential neighborhoods, industry, and continuing urban development meet.

Today Segyo-dong is a relatively small parish community, but diocesan reports show sustained participation through parish-day events, sacred music, and cooperative ministry with other parishes of the Pyeongtaek district. Its character is shaped less by size than by steady local relationships and participation. Visitors can understand the parish as a community closely connected to the daily life of local Catholics while also sharing in the wider pastoral network of Pyeongtaek.

History & origins

Segyo-dong Parish began on September 23, 2005, when the Diocese of Suwon established a new parish in the Pyeongtaek district. The original diocesan notice referred to it provisionally as “Pyeongtaek Second Church” and defined it as a new pastoral community serving part of Segyo-dong. A church site and temporary worship space were prepared in Segyo-dong, and a community of more than six hundred households began to take shape as an independent parish.

The parish later adopted the local name Segyo-dong and became firmly established under the patronage of St. Peter the Apostle. A 2019 diocesan report connected with the parish-day celebration again confirmed September 23, 2005, as the foundation date and recorded the present address and patron. This shows the transition from a newly created provisional community to a parish rooted in its locality.

The history of Segyo-dong is marked less by a single monumental building project than by the creation and steady maintenance of an independent pastoral community amid changes in Pyeongtaek. Parish-day music events and cooperative liturgical and educational activities with neighboring parishes show how a smaller community strengthened fellowship and wider regional ties. Its history is therefore one of building a stable local Catholic community where residents could continue Mass and sacramental life close to home.
