The Hwaseong Community of the Salesians of Don Bosco is a local religious community of the Society of Saint Francis de Sales (S.D.B.) living and serving within the Diocese of Suwon. The Catholic Directory of Korea officially lists the community in Hyangnam-eup, Hwaseong as the Salesian “Hwaseong Community,” and its current entry includes migrant ministry among the community’s apostolic responsibilities.

The Salesians were founded by Saint John Bosco to serve young people, especially those at risk of being excluded from education and care. Their mission centers on living alongside the young and connecting education with faith. In Korea, the institute also expanded its apostolic presence in response to the urgent need for youth education in the aftermath of the Korean War.

The Hwaseong Community can thus be understood as a religious community carrying out Salesian spirituality and mission within the concrete circumstances of the Hwaseong area of the Diocese of Suwon. It differs from a territorial parish responsible for all Catholics in a defined area. Its core identity is that of a Salesian base where common religious life and prayer support specific apostolates, including youth ministry and ministry involving migrants.
