Salesian Sisters (Daughters of Mary Help of Christians)

About this place

The Suwon Convent of the Salesian Sisters is a community of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (F.M.A.) located within the Diocese of Suwon. The Catholic Directory of Korea lists it as the “Suwon Convent” of the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, a women’s religious institute internationally known as the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco or the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

The institute was founded through the collaboration of Saint John Bosco and Saint Maria Domenica Mazzarello and has long placed the Christian education and integral development of children and young people at the center of its mission. The Salesian tradition of the “Preventive System” emphasizes accompanying the young through reason, religion, and loving kindness so that they can grow as whole persons.

The Suwon Convent can therefore be understood as a local religious community living the spirituality and apostolic tradition of the Salesian Sisters within the Diocese of Suwon. It is important for visitors to distinguish it from an ordinary territorial parish church: it is a religious-community base where common life and prayer are connected with an apostolic spirituality centered on the education and care of young people.
