About this place
Saegam Spirituality House is registered in the Diocese of Suwon as a retreat and prayer house under the responsibility of the Blessed Sacrament Sisters of Charity. Unlike a territorial parish, it is a place where individuals and groups step away from ordinary routines to spend time in prayer, retreat, and spiritual reflection.
The Blessed Sacrament Sisters of Charity describe their spirituality as “Inbo,” love and care for one's neighbor rooted in the love of the Eucharist. Their apostolic tradition of serving those in material and spiritual need and cooperating in the proclamation of the Gospel helps explain Saegam not merely as accommodation but as a place where prayer, care, and faith formation meet.
The congregation's own chronology also records prayer camps for children and young people at Saegam. The house therefore carries both the function of a retreat setting for personal and communal reflection and an educational spiritual role where younger generations can experience prayer and community life. The name “Spirituality House” itself reflects this character. Rather than ordinary territorial parish ministry, its central function is to offer a place to remain for a time within the congregation’s spirituality and prayer and to reflect on one’s life of faith.
History & origins
The local history of Saegam Spirituality House is clearly documented in the official chronology of the Blessed Sacrament Sisters of Charity. The congregation records the blessing of the “Yongin Saegam Spirituality House” on December 18, 2015. This blessing marks the point at which the space prepared in Yongin began to be used formally within the Church for the congregation's retreat and prayer apostolate.
After the facility was established, Saegam became a place where the congregation's spirituality met faith formation for young people. In August 2019, separate overnight prayer camps entitled “Let's Play with Prayer!” were held for middle- and high-school girls and for older elementary-school girls. These records show that the house served not only adult retreatants but also younger participants learning prayer and community life.
This use continued in 2020. The congregation's chronology records both a middle- and high-school prayer camp and an elementary-school prayer camp at Saegam in January of that year. Program details naturally change over time, but the official record confirms that the house was repeatedly used for prayer and faith education in the years after its blessing.
The historical significance of Saegam is therefore less about major architectural changes than about the way a space blessed in 2015 became established as a place for retreat, prayer, and the faith experience of younger generations within the congregation's Eucharistic spirituality of love of neighbor. Its present identity grows naturally from these early patterns of use. Because the official chronology records both the blessing and actual programs held at the site, it reveals the function of Saegam more concretely than a directory that merely confirms the facility’s existence. The record that it was used relatively early for the prayer experience of younger generations supports understanding the house as a practical place where the congregation’s spirituality was communicated.
